"Lettuce" Observe My Valentine's Tradition
A few years back I shared some memories of my grandpa and his tradition of planting lettuce on Valentine's Day. I've tried to always honor his memory by doing the same. This year it's going to be a little harder because of the wind. It was blowing so hard earlier that I couldn't keep a chain link gate closed! Hopefully it will die down long enough for the seeds to land where I toss them. We're supposed to be getting some snow in a few hours so I'll wait til it gets here to give the seeds something to catch on. I'm always amazed at how well the lettuce that gets sown on Valentine's Day grows. Even in years like this one, where the weather seems to make it impossible, the lettuce always pops up at the first sign of a good thaw. Happy Valentine's Day!
