Outing Myself

Ever get the feeling that someone is watching you with evil intent? Waiting for you to say the wrong thing, buy the wrong product, or visit the wrong establishment? I don't have that feeling. But I could see where it would be easy to fall into a trap of my own making by blogging about sustainability and homesteading and using words like: only, always, and/or never. So here is how I avoid having to buy a disguise to go to McDonald's and WalMart.

1. I remind myself every day that I am on a journey that has a vague destination. Perfection won't come as long as I'm alive, so I'm striving for contentment and good-enoughness. (Yes, I made that word up.)

2. I try to make point #1 perfectly clear in my public conversations and writings.

There. I am human.

Yes I want to raise(or buy local) all my own food and live off the grid and never see my DH punch a time clock again. Yes I want to barter for goods and services. Yes I want to live a more healthy and natural lifestyle.

But all those things aren't possible while I have a mortgage and doctor bills and live in an area where like minded people are few and far between.

I'm doing the best I can to get there, learning and achieving more all the time. Meanwhile, sometimes my loaf of bread comes off a shelf and the chicken feed isn't organic and sometimes I just really want a Big Mac. And I'm not going to duck for cover if someone sees me getting those things!
