My DH knew he wouldn't be here for my special day so he gave me a special night while he was home. He let me pick anywhere I wanted to go for dinner and a movie. (I won't go into all the food related OCD issues my DH has but trust me, getting to pick the restaurant is a VERY BIG DEAL.) And, oh, the choices in our little town. Decisions, decisions.
I finally chose to go to the Ponderosa Steak House. Because their steaks are awesome you ask? No. Because the atmosphere is romantic? No. Because they have an all-you-can-eat buffet? No, again. We went to the Ponderosa because they have CAKE. I knew I wasn't getting a birthday cake unless I made it myself. Or bought one of those bakery cakes at the grocery store. Um, no thanks. A birthday cake loses it's specialness the minute you make or buy it for yourself. Besides, what am I going to do by myself with a whole cake? So we had a nice dinner. And then I had cake!
The next day was a flurry of activity getting DH ready to hit the road. But after he left, I thought about how special that little splurge had made me feel. In the middle of the humdrum winter, the day-to-day saving and planning and sustaining, I had a treat.
And now, dear friends, for the giveaway:
Today, I'm giving you all permission to treat yourself. Really. Isn't it so much easier to do when someone else says it's perfectly fine to do that? Have a McDonald's coffee, get a manicure, soak in the bath a while, have some cuddle time with your dog/cat/goat/spouse, EAT A PIECE OF CAKE. In a little bit you can get back to seed sorting, bargain hunting, coop cleaning, poop scooping, bread baking... It will all still be there. But, in honor of my birthday, please, give yourself a little break. It's so worth it!
