A Day of Firsts

And so,we've finished up our first year of homesteading! When I started this blog, it was a way for me to share what we've learned along the way. As a bonus, I got comments back with even more tips, suggestions, pointers, encouragement, and laughs. But I think a year has been plenty of time to learn it all so I will say goodbye now-NOT! Ha, gotcha! We haven't even scratched the surface of sustainable living. But we have experienced so many new things and I have loved almost every minute of it. I can't wait to see what this next year is going to bring, the suspense is thrilling!

I've begun my first "from scratch" sewing project! The previous ones were from a kit with step-by-step directions. But now I'm moving on to big girl stuff. I'm making cloth napkins to celebrate our one-year anniversary of being paper free!!! When we set the table last Thanksgiving, we made a conscious decision to use cloth napkins starting that day. I want to share the fun of this milestone-a big one for us-by sharing the napkins I'm making in a giveaway. BUT, it won't be starting today. Today I did this:
 Cutting fabric
I got a little bit of sewing done and then my machine went haywire. I had tangled knots everywhere. So the napkins will get finished tomorrow and THEN I will start the giveaway. Oooh, anticipation LOL.

And here is all the other exciting new stuff for today:
First baby chick hatched in our coop! and her very protective mama

First ever turnip- and now I can weed around it since I know what it is-yay!
